Our vocabulary strategy this week is the prefixes -ad and -en. These are some examples of those prefixes in words. I learned this strategy by my teacher Mrs. C. Something that helped me learn this better was this project. I really like this project because I love making pic collages.
Our story this week is ''The Great fire''!! It is a story about the Chicago fire. The fire started when a cow kicked over a lantern and it caught on fire. ''Chicago was a city ready to burn'' it stated in the text the meaning behind this is everything in the town was made of wood and painted over to make it look expensive like metal or marble. Wood and paint are extremely flamable. If you havent read this book I would highly recomend it to you!!
BREAKING NEWS!! We are reading a book called Freedom Walkers. It is about sgregation and the Montgomery Bus Boycott in Alabama. It started with threats but then thing got more serious and attacks started to happen. One bombing happened on Martin Luther King Jr.'s house with his family in it. Then at E.D. Nixon's house a stick of dinomite was thrown in his window. I learned alot in this project epecially about how mean the blacks were treated by the whites and how threatening the whites really were. Some people who helped me learn this was Mrs. C., Jesse, Emma and Jordan. I really like this project and the story ''Freedom Walkers''. This week my class and I are reading a chapter book together. This week it is a Non-Fiction book. It is about ''The Mongomery Bus Boycott'' and we are learning about some very important people in history like Rosa Parks, Cloudette, and more and how they thought that they had the same rights as whites and they felt the whites controled them. Back then, there was a lot of segregation in the south and not as much in the North. It talks about how the blacks had to sit in the back of the bus and whites got to sit in the front. If all the whites sit were taken then the blacks had to give up there seat. According to the bus they were on some of the bus drivers made them enter throught the back of the bus not the main door in the front. While they were walking around to the back some of the drivers would drive off even after they paid their fine of 10 cents.
The skill of the week is cause and effect. Cause and effect is one if my favorite skills becasue we get to do fun worksheets to help us learn that a cause is something that leads to the effect. Our story this week is Kensuke's Kingdom. An example of cause and effect from the story is: CAUSE: Michael jumps into the ocean without Kensuke's permission. EFFECT: Michael gets stung by a jellyfish.
I made a code out of emojis. I spelled Hello. I challenge you to make a code, it id really fun. One of the reasons I decided to make a code was in our small-groups we read a book all about codes. I made it on pic collage. My group of Thomas, Jesse, and Clayton helped me learn all about codes and how to make and crack one!
